Social Studies Learning Journey To Farms

Dear Reader,
On 7th April, we went to visit four farms. Why these farms? Because these farms use the nowadays method of growing food. The farms we visited were a Hydroponic vegetable farm, Qian Hu fish farm, Marine Fisheries department and the Goat Farm. They all used a very unqie way of getting products instead of using a longer and more tedious way. For example, the Goat Farm used tubes to suck up the milk from the goats' udder. Then, the milk is sold in bottles. I also learned a lot of things about the things in the farms. I learned about goats, names of plants, fishes like the "aruwana" and about what Marine Fisheries department means. We also learned about the past's farming area was more than today's recent ones becuase of land cleared for more housing space. It was really a unforgettable trip!

International Friendship Day

Dear reader,
We celebrate International friendship Day to know more about different countries around the world.
International Friendship Day celebrations take place on the first Sunday of August every year. The people who who created International Frienship Day was The United States Congress, in US.
ASEAN is the theme for this year's International Friendship Day. it stands for Association Of South East Nations.
To tell the truth, I don't really know what's ASEAN. Maybe I can consult my Social Studies teacher when I see him.
Aso, I love playing the games by the school on International Day. I wish every day had games from over the world, food over the world and know more about the countries surrounding us, Singapore. The school can also oraganize this game I thought of on International Friendship Day:
  1. Put up some pictures around the school; the pupils will try to count all of them during the one-hour recess. The people who have the correct number of pictures will win a mystery prize.
I, too, don't have any friends in the ASEAN countries. I think my problem is that I'm too shy to make friends but I should at least try to make friends, I guess.
Thanks for reading, Reader

Improving the school

Dear readers,
I'll be talking about how to improve the school today.
I like the computer lab, my classroom and the canteen the most. In the computer lab, we can do alot of things that I like to do. My classroom is where I learn, hence my liking of it. The canteen, of course, is the only place where my friends and I can sit down and disscuss important things(to us). I dislike the toilets as it's very dirty and smelly. I think that to improve the toilets, you can put something to make it smell nicer.
A place such as the Skylite Cafe can be improved as I thought it doesn't have enough seats for pupils.
Also, even pupils can help to improve the school by picking up litter when you see it and giving your bowl of noodles or rice back to the store owner when you have finished your meal. This way, we can make sure the school is clean and very organised.

Healthy Eating

We have to eat fruits and vegetables to be healthy.
However, adults and children like to eat many unhealthy foods. Some of these foods include fried chicken wings, lollipops, crackers and sweets.

It's very important to eat healthily so that we will not suffer from diseases.
Some of those diseases include scurvy, stomach discomfort, e.t.c.
Also, you can grow taller and stronger by eating lots of fruits and vegetables.
I like to eat fruits and vegetables everyday so that I can grow stronger, taller and healthier.
Lastly, the activites that I suggest (to encourage children to eat more fruits and vegetables) is fruit-and-vegetable-making contest and a programme to let children know about the benefits of eating healthily.

Sport's Day

Dear reader,
One day in Feburary, my class(including me) went to Yio Chu Kang stadium for Sport's Day. After going through all those selecting, I was really eager to see the selected pupils running. Luckily, I wan't chosen. anyway, it was very hot i n the stadium. The most interesting part was when my house and other houses were given two balls. We had to make sure that the ball didn't roll of the stand to the grass patch below. During the second game, Mr Martin Tan, our princapal, can over to help Shapphire House, my house! The Sport's Day was the most exciting Sport's day ever!

Earth Day

Earth Day is a day which we appreciate the Earth. The first Earth Day was celebrated on April 22, 1970. In 1970, Senator Galord Neslon realised that the people weren't treating the Earth like they should. He made a suggestion to make a special day so that everyone in the world would respect the Earth. It was April 22,1970, that the first Earth day was born.
Here are some things that we should take note of:
  1. Don't cut down trees.
  2. Don't hunt or poach illegally.
  3. Use both sides of paper before throwing away.
  4. Throw old things in a reclying bag or bin.
  5. Don't smoke.

The solution to make other people follow these tips is to tell people, set up posters, in pamflets or any other way you can think of. The Earth is a very important thing to us. Imagine that the Earth was destroyed and we would have nowhere to go. So, start voting for "The Earth" now!
