Reflections on SA1 performance

Dear Reader,
Yes, the SA1 papers(all) have treated me fairly as all the papers have questions from the textbooks and the activity books. The reason for my good scores is because I do my assessment books and homework diligently. I guess the practice had paid off. Yes, the enrichment classes in school were useful because it helped me answer difficult questions in the SA1. My mother tutors me at home and that, too, has helped me. Also, I'd like to take these actions to improve my results in the coming CA2 and SA2:
  • Read my textbooks
  • Learn from my mistakes, understand the correct way of answering them, and try not to make the same mistakes again from the activity books and tests
  • Take down notes from each lesson and revise them at home

So, what do you think? Could you, too, try to do some of the same? Maybe it'll help you with your CA2 and SA2, right? Anyway, here's something else for you to consider:

  • Have enrichment classes which teach topics tested in the exams
  • Have "Fun learning" programs

I hope that you will find these ideas useful!

Influenza A HINI

Dear reader,

Influenza A H1N1 is a very deadly disease that is spreading around from country to country every few weeks or even days! It spreads from farmers who got it from pigs and then it spreads on to other people in the world. Many countries are already infected with this disease. The four worst-hit countries are Mexico, US, Canada and Japan.

The other infected (but not so many cases) countries and the non-infected countries try to not have more or even any cases by taking temperature and wearing masks to make sure the virus will not get into one's body system. And as for temperature taking, yes, it's good for children and adults because it can tell you what your temperature is, then if it's too high, you should go and see a doctor, don't come to school as that will infect student after student. If your temperature is all right, then good, continue to stay at school and learn.

Besides taking temperature, schools also encourage students to wash their hands properly with soap and checking for symptoms of the Influenza A H1N1 virus.

Besides all these things, I want to take matters into my own hands for myself too. Here are some things I want to do (and you could, too!)

  • Regular proper hand-washing with soap after and before meals
  • Sanitizing hands after touching dirty items
  • Have enough sleep and eating lots of fruits and vegetables
  • Make sure I get exercise to stay healthy

Hope that you follow my advice on what to do if your country has a few or some or many cases of Influenza A H1N1 Virus. If you still need more information, you can always read the newspapers, surf the Internet or listen to the radio.

All the best,

Classroom Cleaniless

Dear Reader,
I think my classroom is clean as I always see my classmates, my friends or myself pitching in to help clean the classroom. I encourage everybody to start to help clean the classroom to make sure the whole classroom is free of germs. If we don't clean the classroom, the germs will multiply and will cause illness to the pupils. I keep my own classroom clean by:
  • Sweeping the floor
  • Picking up litter
  • Cleaning the whiteboard

By participating in cleaning the classroom, I've learnt that "In clean environment, you can study better, concentrate better, and pay more attention to the teacher."
Besides these things that I've learnt, I've also learnt a school value in cleaning the classroom, which is "Self-discipline". If we all didn't have self-discipline, we wouldn't have the dicipline to even clean the classrooms!

Cleanly yours,

Wen Shuen

Kindness

Readers,
Kindness means showing care towards others. It is very important to be kind because other people will like you, be your friend and you will be loved by a lot of people due to your kindness.
You can show your kindness by helping people with tasks they cannot manage themselves. As an example, John had helped an old lady carry her shopping after school to her flat where she stays.
I have also done an act of kindness by helping my classmates in their work or corrections, helping them on computer, helping my classmates pick up their fallen things and helping my teachers to carry their things. After I helped them, my friends and teachers were grateful for my help, and I felt very happy.
Even though I have done some acts of kindness, I'd like to do some more... Maybe these:
  • Reminding my friends to complete their homework
  • Telling friends words that they don't understand in textbooks or activity books
  • Washing the cups and plates at home
  • Washing the clothes at home
  • Reading stories to my family members

Lastly, I can promote the message of kindness to my friends by reading to them stories of kindness, so that they can, in turn, can pass it on to others .

Thanks for reading,

Wen Shuen

Earth Day

Dear Reader,

Yes, Earth Day is important to me becuase that is the day when we remember Earth, so as not to treat the Earth so badly.

I understand by this phrase, "save the Earth" that we should save the Earth from being seriously hurt by humans.
Of course, you know the phrase "Reuse, Reduce and Recycle", right? It means:
  • Reuse- Use something again
  • Reduce- Make something happen less
  • Recycle- Make something again for another use

On Earth day, my family and I can play this game:(follow steps)

  1. Set up some bins
  2. Place some items that can be recycled, reused or reduced on a table
  3. Family members must try to sort out all the different items on what can be done with it

Nice? O.K, start playing!
